Check Your Wallet? How Mobile Driver’s Licenses are Changing Online Transactions

This report explains how mobile driver's licenses (mDLs) can improve online identity verification and reduce fraud by leveraging digital cryptography, biometrics, and selective disclosure, and describes the National Cybersecurity Center of Excellence (NCCoE) project to develop a reference architecture for mDL adoption—especially for financial account opening and KYC/CIP use cases—while seeking collaboration from stakeholders to address security, privacy, usability, and interoperability challenges.
