NASA inspector general suggests Boeing's Starliner will now be a decade late

The inspector general concluded the 2024 Starliner crewed flight was a "Type A" mishap, prompting senior personnel changes and revealing ambiguity in NASA requirements and mishap classification. The report highlights increased costs (an estimated $300M for an additional crew transportation mission, $17M paid to SpaceX to accelerate Crew Dragon flights, and ~$128M in questioned Boeing payments), schedule and certification delays that could push human-rating to 2027, and operational constraints for fitting Starliner-1 into launch and ISS schedules.
