How scheduling defaults and off-hours blindness are silently degrading backup reliability

This report analyzes ~960 million Acronis backup job executions (H2 2025) and finds that backups are most likely to fail during off-hours—notably 02:00 with full backups failing at 21.61% and Friday 01:00 peaking at 11.12%—while the industry clusters schedules around 23:00 (185,693 jobs/day). It shows failure rates vary dramatically by backup type, argues that UTC-based analyses mislead, and recommends spreading schedules, using backup-type-specific windows (e.g., full backups at 06:00 or early afternoon, incrementals at 16:00), prioritizing Friday monitoring, and shifting focus to business-hours visibility to reduce silent failures and RPO exposure.
