58% of Organizations Are Unprepared for Cyberattacks

Proofpoint’s Voice of the CISO survey of 1,600 CISOs across 16 countries highlights rising anxiety amid more frequent and sophisticated cyberattacks: 76% feel at risk in the next year, two-thirds experienced material data loss in the past year, and 92% report insider-related loss from departing employees. Generative AI is both a strategic priority (64% globally) and a concern (80% of U.S. CISOs worry about customer data exposure via public genAI). Despite awareness, 58% say they are unprepared to respond to attacks, and 66% would consider paying a ransom to restore systems or prevent data leaks.
