Ukrainian software developer faces 12 years in Swiss ransomware trial

Swiss prosecutors are seeking a 12-year prison sentence and expulsion for a Ukrainian software developer accused of being a key developer in an international ransomware operation (using LockerGoga, MegaCortex and Nefilim) that targeted companies between December 2018 and May 2020 and caused estimated losses of more than CHF 130 million; the defendant denies involvement and investigators also uncovered child sexual abuse material during the probe, which expanded into a multinational investigation involving several countries.
