UK national hacked public companies for stock trading intel, DOJ says

U.K. national Robert Westbrook was arrested and the U.S. seeks his extradition on charges that he accessed senior executives' Office365 email accounts at five companies between January 2019 and August 2020, set auto-forwarding rules to exfiltrate pre-release earnings information, and used the stolen data to carry out insider trades that generated approximately $3.75 million; authorities allege he used anonymous email, VPNs, and Bitcoin to conceal his identity and faces criminal and civil penalties.
