African cybercrime crackdown culminates in 1,006 captured and cuffed

Interpol and Afripol’s Operation Serengeti (September–October) led to 1,006 arrests across 19 African countries and targeted a range of organized cybercriminal activities — including ransomware, BEC, Ponzi schemes, and trafficking-related scams — tied to roughly $190 million in global losses; authorities also reported dismantling over 134,000 malicious infrastructures and identifying more than 35,000 victims, while warning of emerging threats such as AI-driven malware.
