Lawmakers reintroduce children’s online privacy legislation

Lawmakers reintroduced the Children and Teens’ Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA 2.0), sponsored by Sens. Ed Markey and Bill Cassidy, which would ban targeted advertising to minors, require data minimization and deletion, and mandate consent for collecting data from users aged 13–16. The bill previously passed the Senate 91–3 but did not receive a House vote, and it now has support from numerous advocacy, education, privacy, and medical organizations.
