Feds charge alleged administrator of ‘sophisticated’ Rapper Bot botnet

The U.S. Department of Justice charged Ethan Foltz for administering "Rapper Bot" (aka Eleven Eleven Botnet/CowBot), a Mirai-derived DDoS-for-hire botnet that hijacked DVRs and WiFi routers to conduct over 370,000 attacks against roughly 18,000 victims worldwide (including U.S. government and defense-related service providers); investigators allege customers rented the service and some campaigns involved extortion, and law enforcement seized the botnet infrastructure.
