Hacker defaces NYU website, exposing admissions data on 1 million students

An attacker briefly seized control of NYU’s website and published multiple datasets exposing sensitive personal information for over one million applicants and students (names, addresses, phone numbers, GPAs, emails and more), with some reporting up to 3 million applicants affected; the perpetrator claimed affiliation with a group called "Computer Niggy Exploitation" and said the action was politically motivated. NYU worked with a cybersecurity consultant to regain control within three hours and has reported the incident to law enforcement while reviewing the scope of the unauthorized access.
