Social engineering attack obtains data on ‘majority’ of Allianz Life customers

Allianz Life disclosed a social-engineering-driven breach of a third-party CRM on July 16 that allowed an attacker to obtain personally identifiable information for the majority of its U.S. customer base, some financial professionals, and select employees; the company discovered the access the following day, notified authorities (FBI), and is initiating customer notifications. The incident is presented alongside warnings that social-engineering groups have been targeting the insurance sector and follows related incidents reported by other insurers.
