FCC bans foreign-made routers from US market over ‘unacceptable risk’

The FCC has banned future imports of consumer routers manufactured outside the U.S. unless vendors obtain exemptions, citing an unacceptable national-security risk after multiple instances of foreign-made routers being compromised and used by state-sponsored and criminal actors for surveillance, botnets, password-spray attacks, and network pivoting; U.S. agencies (CISA, FBI/NSA) and vendors (Microsoft) were referenced in the assessment.
