Clearview AI settles class-action privacy lawsuit worth an estimated $50 million

A federal judge approved a settlement resolving claims that Clearview AI violated Illinois’ Biometric Information Privacy Act by scraping and selling facial images without consent, opting for a future-value-based financial structure instead of a lump-sum payout. The agreement, which includes no admission of liability, drew objections from 22 state attorneys general and D.C., and follows a prior 2022 agreement limiting Clearview’s access for private companies and Illinois agencies. The company also underwent leadership changes, with its former CEO resigning and two co-CEOs now in place.
