Chinese and Russian spies stepping up cyberattacks, German companies report

A Bitkom survey of 1,003 German companies found that over two-thirds experienced a successful cyberattack in the last 12 months, with organized crime and ransomware remaining prevalent and foreign intelligence services (primarily China, then Russia and Iran) increasingly blamed for industrial espionage, data theft, and sabotage; the report estimates economic losses of $186–$240 billion and cites notable incidents at Lidl, Unimed, and the Dresden State Art Collections.
