Three Russians, one Kazakhstani charged in takedown of Anyproxy and 5socks botnets

U.S. law enforcement, aided by international partners and private security researchers, dismantled two long-running router-based botnet proxy services (Anyproxy and 5socks) that infected end-of-life consumer routers, sold thousands of proxies (over 7,000 listed) and allegedly generated about $46M over two decades; four suspects were charged and the FBI issued an advisory urging replacement or mitigation of impacted routers.
