SentinelLabs reported parallel, nation-state-linked espionage operations against the Balochistan Police between February 2024 and April 2026 that compromised a complaint management portal and other networks holding criminal records, biometrics, personnel files and registration data. Chinese-nexus activity is associated with backdoors such as PlugX and ShadowPad and a trojanized portal update that displayed a fake "update complete" message, while India-linked intrusions were tentatively attributed to TAG-179 (aka Bitter/Mysterious Elephant); researchers link motivations to protecting Chinese nationals working on the China–Pakistan Economic Corridor and to bilateral rivalry.
