Hungarian police arrest suspect in cyberattacks on independent media

Hungarian police arrested a 23-year-old suspect accused of orchestrating prolonged DDoS attacks against multiple independent Hungarian news sites and the International Press Institute using DDoS-for-hire services and proxy infrastructure under the alias “Hano.” The attacks intermittently disrupted access to several outlets from April 2023 into 2024; investigators seized electronic devices during a search and are probing motive and possible external backing amid concerns the attacks were politically motivated.
