Over 1,200 arrested in Africa-wide cybercrime crackdown, Interpol says

Authorities across Africa, coordinated with Interpol under the operation "Serengeti 2.0" (June–August), dismantled large cybercrime and fraud networks—arresting over 1,200 suspects, recovering roughly $97.4M from about 88,000 victims, shutting 25 illicit crypto-mining centers in Angola (seizing >$37M in equipment), and disrupting a separate $300M fake-cryptocurrency investment fraud in Zambia—while warning of West Africa emerging as a cybercrime hotspot due to weak cybersecurity and organized scam centers.
