California fines national high school ticketing platform $1.1 million for privacy violations

The California Privacy Protection Agency fined PlayOn Sports $1.1 million and ordered it to change privacy and opt-out practices after finding the company compelled users—including many high school students—to accept tracking to access tickets and services and directed users to third-party opt-out tools rather than providing an in-site option. The CPPA's order requires clear disclosures, risk assessments, proper opt-out methods, and adherence to California protections for minors' data; PlayOn says it has implemented privacy enhancements and cooperated with the agency.
