Nova Scotia Power says customer banking details may have been stolen by hackers

Nova Scotia Power and parent company Emera discovered on April 25 that an intruder had accessed parts of their network and stolen customer data (access occurred March 19). The compromised information may include names, contact details, account history (power consumption and payments), driver’s license details, Social Insurance numbers, and possibly bank account numbers; the companies are isolating affected servers, rebuilding impacted systems, and notifying customers. Physical generation and transmission were reportedly not affected, and it is unknown whether the incident involves ransomware.
