Polish intelligence warns hackers attacked water treatment control systems

Poland’s Internal Security Agency (ABW) reported that attackers breached water treatment stations in five towns in 2025, gaining access in some cases to industrial control systems with the ability to alter device parameters and risk disrupting water supplies. The agency described the activity as part of an intensified, long-term hostile campaign—emphasizing Russian intelligence services—conducting reconnaissance and sabotage against military sites and critical infrastructure, and warned of increased espionage and hybrid tactics (recruitment via encrypted messaging and crypto payments).
