Microsoft Teams to Share your Location With Your Employer Soon Based on Wi-Fi Network

Microsoft is rolling out a Teams feature (Roadmap ID 488800) in March 2026 that can automatically set a user’s work location based on recognized organizational Wi‑Fi SSIDs on Desktop and Mac, off by default and requiring both admin enablement and user opt-in; it updates only during working hours and clears at day’s end. The update, delayed from earlier target dates, is intended to streamline hybrid coordination but has raised privacy and surveillance concerns, prompting guidance for administrators to prepare configuration, policies, and communications.
