YubiKey 5.8 Released With Secure Enterprise Workflows and AI-driven Approvals

Yubico announced the YubiKey 5.8 firmware (July 21, 2026), which extends hardware-backed passkey capabilities beyond login into verified authorization workflows for document signing, digital identity wallets, secure payments, and AI-driven approval processes. The release adds CTAP 2.3 and preview support for the WebAuthn signing extension, expands Enterprise Attestation to 16 Relying Party IDs, introduces persistent PIN and user-verification authorization tokens, and improves credential discovery and support for verifiable credentials and Secure Payment Confirmation—positioning YubiKey as a hardware-based control for both passwordless authentication and approval of high-risk digital actions.
