Microsoft’s New Option Allows Organizations to Block Copilot Access to Office Files

Microsoft announced that Microsoft 365 Purview sensitivity labels will be expanded to enforce a “Prevent some connected experiences that analyze content” setting across Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, blocking Copilot and other Microsoft-connected services from analyzing labeled files. The feature entered Public Preview in mid‑May 2026 and began rolling out to General Availability in mid‑June 2026 with worldwide completion expected by late July 2026; organizations are advised to review labels and update documentation and helpdesk guidance.
