Microsoft's October 14, 2025 update KB5068164 for Windows 10 (v21H2 and v22H2) included a bug that prevented the Windows Recovery Environment (WinRE) from starting, leaving systems with non-functional recovery for months; the issue was logged on February 20, 2026 and resolved with KB5075039 (confirmed March 3, 2026). The update targeted WinRE via Safe OS Dynamic Update KB5067017 and required at least 250 MB free in the recovery partition; administrators are advised to verify WinRE status (reagentc /info), resize recovery partitions if needed, and install KB5075039 to restore recovery functionality.
