Discord will globally roll out “teen-by-default” safety controls and expanded age assurance in early March, applying progressive gating for age-restricted features (e.g., sensitive content, DMs, age-gated channels, Stages) while preserving general access without universal verification. The system uses a toolkit including age inference, facial age estimation, and ID scans with privacy safeguards; adults can unlock additional capabilities upon verification. Discord also warns that age prompts occur only in-app during restricted actions to deter phishing and is launching a Teen Council to guide future safety features.
