3000+ Discussions on Dark Web Posts to Use ChatGPT for Illegal Purposes

Researchers observed a surge in Dark Web chatter throughout 2023 on misusing ChatGPT-like models for cybercrime—ranging from writing polymorphic malware and parsing malware logs to selling jailbreak prompts and stolen or automated accounts. While tools such as WormGPT (and lookalikes) were promoted and later exploited by scammers, security analysts have not yet confirmed real-world detections of the hypothesized AI-generated polymorphic malware. The trend lowers the technical barrier for entry and may broaden the scale and sophistication of future attacks, particularly through code generation, obfuscation, and social engineering.
