Betterment Data Breach Exposes 1.4 million Customers Personal Details

Betterment disclosed a January 2026 social‑engineering incident in which attackers compromised a third‑party platform account to send fraudulent crypto promotion messages and expose personal data for roughly 1.4 million customer accounts. Exposed fields include names, emails, locations, addresses, phone numbers, dates of birth, job titles, and device metadata; the company states there is no evidence that passwords, authentication tokens, or investment accounts were accessed and it revoked access and began a forensic investigation.
