AWS Cost Explorer Bug Shows Trillion-Dollar Billing Estimates

AWS experienced an issue in Cost Explorer on July 16–17 where estimated billing projections showed implausibly high charges (trillions of dollars) caused by a unit-pricing bug in the estimated billing computation layer. AWS confirmed actual usage and invoices were not affected, is recomputing estimates across accounts, and warned customers to validate usage via service dashboards and logs; there is no evidence in the report of malicious activity or unauthorized access.
