Microsoft’s New Teams New Admin Role to Manage External Collaboration Settings

Microsoft is introducing the Teams External Collaboration Administrator role to enable least-privilege delegation of external access and federation management in Teams, rolling out from late January to mid-February 2026; the role allows configuring external domain policies and federation without full Teams admin rights, must be managed via PowerShell (no Teams admin center access), does not support Administrative Units, and can be assigned through Microsoft Entra or Microsoft 365 admin centers, with organizations advised to update documentation, notify global admins, and review compliance requirements.
