Half of polled infosec pros say their degree was less than useful for real-world work

Kaspersky’s survey of 1,012 cybersecurity professionals across 29 countries found a split view on higher education’s value: 50% rated it very or extremely useful, while 50% found it only slightly or not useful. Respondents cited the rapid pace of technological change and limited real-world experience among instructors as key gaps; 43% studied information security formally, yet half rated infosec course availability as poor (rising to 83% among those with 2–5 years’ experience). Regional responses varied on instructors’ industry experience, with higher disagreement noted in Russia and the Middle East/Turkey/Africa.
