Google makes end-to-end encrypted Gmail easy for all – even Outlook users

Google announced a phased rollout of client-side end-to-end encrypted (E2EE) email in Gmail for both Workspace and personal users, enabling seamless Gmail-to-Gmail encryption and link-based access for external recipients while remaining compatible with S/MIME. Admins gain controls to default E2EE, apply sensitivity labels that drive DLP rules, and benefit from enhanced AI threat protection for spam/phishing, though the link-based flow may resemble collaboration invites and warrants phishing-awareness.
