Microsoft's May 2026 security update introduced a bug in Windows Server 2016 where servers with hostnames exactly 15 characters long can fail domain controller discovery (DCLocator calls return ERROR_INVALID_PARAMETER), potentially breaking DC-dependent services and admin tools such as DFS Namespace management; Microsoft lists no workaround other than changing the hostname and says the issue is under investigation (the report also briefly notes an unrelated Windows 11 update failure when the EFI System Partition is too small).
