Microsoft blamed for million-plus patient record theft at US hospital giant

Geisinger disclosed that in November a former Nuance (a Microsoft subsidiary) employee improperly accessed and likely copied sensitive records for over one million patients, including birth dates, addresses, admission/discharge records and other medical information (no insurance/financial data reported); Nuance was accused of not promptly revoking access after termination, law enforcement delayed patient notification, and the ex-employee has been arrested and faces federal charges.
