Medical and utility tech companies admit digital breakins

Two major technology suppliers disclosed digital intrusions: Itron reported an unauthorized access discovered April 13, said it engaged law enforcement and external cybersecurity advisors, observed no ongoing activity or customer-hosted system impact, and expects insurer reimbursement for remediation costs; Medtronic acknowledged unauthorized access to certain corporate IT systems while the criminal group ShinyHunters claims to have stolen over 9 million records and issued an extortion demand, though Medtronic says its products, patient safety, manufacturing, and distribution were not affected.
