23andMe has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in the Eastern District of Missouri, seeking a court-supervised sale of assets while continuing operations with $35 million in debtor-in-possession financing. The filing cites legal liabilities from the October 2023 data breach, including a $30 million class-action settlement, and California’s attorney general urged residents to download and delete their data. Co-founder Anne Wojcicki resigned as CEO but remains on the board, following failed attempts to take the company private and prior board resignations.
