FBI cyber boss: China's hacker-for-hire ecosystem 'out of control'

The FBI warns that China's hacker-for-hire ecosystem is operating at scale and often at the direction of Chinese state security, enabling large, sophisticated intrusions; prosecutors have extradited and charged an alleged contractor, Xu Zewei, tied to Shanghai-based companies and to the Hafnium/Silk Typhoon Microsoft Exchange zero-day campaign that compromised hundreds of thousands of servers (including 12,700 U.S. organizations) and targeted COVID-19 researchers.
