Uncle Sam charges alleged Garantex admins after crypto-exchange web seizures

U.S. Secret Service, with German and Finnish partners, seized Garantex domains and servers and unsealed an indictment charging two operators who allegedly ran the exchange from 2019–2025; Garantex is accused of processing at least $96 billion in cryptocurrency transactions that included millions in ransomware proceeds (Black Basta, Play, Conti), stolen funds, and payments for darknet markets, with additional allegations of sanctions violations and unlicensed money-transmission activity.
