UK crimebusters shut down global call-spoofing outfit that claimed 170K-plus victims

The UK's National Crime Agency dismantled 'Russian Coms', a call‑spoofing fraud service that provided criminals with spoofed phone capabilities (burner phones and a web app, VPNs, voice changers, encrypted calls) to impersonate banks and other institutions and steal money and data; several arrests were made and the platform was shut down after more than 1.3 million calls to 500,000 UK numbers and an estimated 170,000 UK victims, with average reported losses >£9,400 and activity spanning 107 countries.
