Google, Apple gear to raise tracking tag stalker alarm

Google and Apple are introducing cross-platform anti-stalking alerts in Android 6.0+ and iOS 17.5 to detect unknown Bluetooth tracking devices moving with a user, expanding detection beyond AirTags to industry-spec-compatible tags and offering tools to locate and disable them. Multiple vendors plan support, and while privacy advocates praise the move as overdue, they caution that the tracking-detection standard must include strong, privacy-preserving cryptographic safeguards to avoid creating new surveillance risks.
