Chinese authorities certified the China Environment for Network Innovation (CENI), a nationwide research network linking 40 cities via 55,000 km of fiber that demonstrated moving 72 TB in 1.6 hours (~100 Gbit/s) over ~1,000 km. Presented at HEPiX and compared to ARPANET/GENI, CENI supports 128 heterogeneous networks and 4,096 parallel service tests, is being used by Huawei and Baidu to trial technologies and improve AI data workflows, and aims to develop networking innovations 5–10 years ahead of industry.
