China's Salt Typhoon spies spotted on US govt networks before telcos, CISA boss says

CISA director Jen Easterly stated that Chinese state-backed actors (Salt Typhoon and related groups like Volt Typhoon) were detected in U.S. federal networks and subsequently linked to widespread intrusions of major telecommunications providers, giving attackers the ability to geolocate millions of subscribers, intercept internet traffic, and record phone calls; the FBI obtained court-approved access to malicious servers and disrupted associated activity, but CISA warns these discoveries likely represent only the "tip of the iceberg" and that deeper compromises of critical infrastructure remain a serious risk.
