RapperBot, a Mirai-derived DDoS-for-hire botnet blamed for over 370,000 attacks against roughly 18,000 victims in 80+ countries, has been taken offline after US authorities arrested the alleged operator, Ethan Foltz. The botnet reportedly produced average attack volumes of 2–3 Tbps (peaking above 6 Tbps) and was rented on-demand for extortion and disruption; the takedown was executed through Operation PowerOFF with assistance from major cloud and security providers.
