PowerSchool theft latest: Decades of Canadian student records, data from 40-plus US states feared stolen

Canada's largest school board and thousands of other K-12 customers were impacted by a PowerSchool security breach in which attackers used a compromised credential to access the PowerSource support portal and an export tool to steal CSVs of student and teacher records. The incident potentially exposed sensitive personal and medical information (including SSNs and health details) for tens of millions of students and millions of teachers across North America and other countries; PowerSchool reportedly paid a ransom and claims the stolen data was deleted.
