France to replace US videoconferencing wares with unfortunately named sovereign alternative

France announced it will phase out US videoconferencing platforms like Zoom, Teams, Webex, and Google Meet from the public sector in favor of a state-built alternative called Visio, developed by DINUM. Positioned as a move for digital sovereignty and security, Visio will run on government-controlled infrastructure, align with French/EU data protections, and is planned for full adoption by 2027, with anticipated cost savings from reduced licensing. The platform aims to include features like transcription and live captions without external cloud processing, though its name may cause confusion with Microsoft Visio.
