Hack to school: Parents told to keep their little script kiddies in line

The ICO reviewed 215 school data breach cases from January 2022 to August 2024 and found 57% were caused by students and 23% by staff poor practices; nearly a third involved stolen login credentials. Anecdotes include pupils accessing school information management systems affecting thousands of records. The report warns of understudied insider threats, low-to-moderate technical sophistication in most cases, and urges parental intervention, refreshed GDPR training, and preventative measures in schools.
