Cops finally unmask 'LockBit kingpin' after two-month tease

The report describes Operation Cronos, a UK-led disruption of the LockBit ransomware gang that culminated in the identification and international sanctioning of alleged leader Dmitry Yuryevich Khoroshev and a US $10M reward for information. Authorities seized and repurposed LockBit's leak site, analyzed 194 affiliates (finding many inactive or unsuccessful), and reported more than 7,000 attacks between June 2022 and February 2024, including over 100 healthcare targets and at least 2,110 victims that entered negotiations; overall LockBit activity and capacity are said to be significantly reduced after the takedown.
