US says China's Volt Typhoon is readying destructive cyberattacks

U.S. and Five Eyes agencies warn that the China-affiliated APT group 'Volt Typhoon' has infiltrated IT networks across U.S. critical infrastructure sectors (communications, energy, transportation, water/wastewater, and territories including Guam) and is pre-positioning to move laterally into OT systems to conduct disruptive or destructive attacks. The advisory reports infections of hundreds of outdated appliances, provides technical TTPs and detection guidance, and urges immediate actions: prioritize patches for internet-facing appliances, enable phishing-resistant MFA, and ensure centralized logging.
