Watchdog warns FBI is sloppy on secure data storage and destruction

An OIG audit criticized the FBI for poor inventory controls and lax physical security over seized electronic storage media (including classified and FISA-related data) at its destruction facility, citing unlabeled drives, open storage boxes, and inadequate access controls and surveillance. The FBI said it has implemented or planned enhancements such as secure cages, surveillance, and new policy directives, and reported no identified incidents of unauthorized access or site compromise.
