Germany names China as source of attack on government geospatial agency

Germany's Ministry of the Interior publicly attributed a 2021 cyber intrusion into the Federal Office of Cartography and Geodesy (BKG) to state-controlled Chinese actors, stating the attackers first compromised private individuals and businesses to infiltrate the agency. Authorities rebuilt affected networks, reported no widespread malware and said the attacker was not maintaining presence, while warning that China is likely to continue highly professional cyber operations aimed at collecting information to support industrial development.
